Plane Rides

I very much appreciate the small kindnesses of traveling. Strangers hoisted my carry on into the overhead bin, opened my granola bar bag when my arthritis flared up, and an airline “temporarily provided” me with a fleece blanket so my overnight stay in the terminal was more comfortable. A 4 year old girl on her way to visit her gramma explained how to make ice cream as we waited for our flight. Once I traveled with my boys, age 18 months and 5 years old to New Mexico. Despite nursing him on takeoff, the pressure change hurt my littlest’s ears and he began to cry. Once the seatbelt sign went off, we got up and he walked up the aisle screaming. I apologized loudly to the other passengers and most of them smiled back at me understandingly. One man asked “would a cookie help?” I replied “no, but a beer would. Can you please buy me one?”

I’ll be traveling for a few months, NOT racking up miles because I lacked foresight and a credit card. If you want to hear about a crazy flight exper, treat yourself to this video by Josh Johnson.
