Ready
6/20/25
If I left today my house plants would die.
The garden would get overgrown.
The kitchen cabinets would never be degreased.
The toilet would have a ring of minerals built up within a short span of time.
The cat's hair would be matted from lack of care.
The dogs would be overfed and gain weight.
The cobwebs would gather in the corners of the living room.
The refrigerator would only be stocked with eggs, meat and milk.
If I left today I wouldn't take much.
Six pairs of clean underwear, a couple of pairs of shoes, a dress, some leggings.
My straw hat, journal and pictures of my kids.
I'd Metro to the airport, and ask which flight was leaving next for some destination in Europe or Africa or Asia.
I’d purchase a ticket, sit in the lounge and wait for my section to be called.
All this after kissing and hugging my cats and dogs goodbye, unsure if they'd be alive when I finally decided to return.
All this after calling my boys, possibly getting one last hug before I disembark.
All this after leaving my husband to travel again, which I told him I would do, the day we got married.
I’ll leave tomorrow.
